AIPSA Programme in Insolvency Law and Practice
Aim
The course is practice-orientated and is aimed at persons involved in
the administration of insolvent estates. The notes which are updated
annually, have been written by experts in practice and concentrate on
the practical aspects of the administration of insolvent estates.
Content
Inter alia the course deals with:
- The effects
of insolvency upon the insolvent, the solvent spouse, contracts and
generally
- Impeachable transactions
- The appointment, powers and
duties of trustees and liquidators
- Insolvency meetings,
interrogations and the proof of claims
- Rehabilitation
- Secured,
statutory-preferent and concurrent creditors
- The drafting of
liquidation and distribution accounts
- Compromises and compositions
- Liquidation of companies and close corporations and judicial management
- Partnerships
- Cross-border insolvencies
Commencement of Lectures
This is a one-year course, which starts in February and ends with
two written examinations towards the end of November.
Recorded lectures on
DVD will be provided to candidates who have registered for the
correspondence course. The course material will only be sent to
individuals on receipt of the proof of payment for the fees in full.
The class attendance course will have lectures, normally held on Tuesday
evening between 18h00 and 20h00. There are 10 two-hour lectures
per semester. (The option of class attendance is, however, subject
to the number of registration for this option)

Admission Requirements
All persons involved in the administration of
insolvent estates. A relevant tertiary qualification or a matric
certificate with relevant practical experience is a requirement for
enrolment.
Language
Lectures on the class attendance course are
available in English only, as well as the lectures contained on the
DVD's. Examinations and assignments may, however, be answered in
English or Afrikaans.
Evaluation
Candidates are prepared
for the examination by the completion of 2 optional assignments and a
workshop. The presentation of workshops is reliant on the number
of registrations in the various centres, and when presented are done so
approximately 2 months before the examination.
